Meet Your Neighbor

Meet Gabrielle'Kim Carty

The Parks of Stonecrest Community Civic Association would like to highlight one of our newest neighbors in the community.  Her name is Gabrielle’ Kim Carty.  She is originally from Spanish Harlem, NY and Mount Vernon, NY.  She has lived in our community for just over six months.  You can tell Gabrielle loves her community because she has already jumped in and started seeing how she can offer her service in helping out in the community.

When we asked Gabrielle what attracted her to the community, she replied, “ since I am retired now I was looking for an area with a mall and a community with lots of amenities”.  I love the fact that we have two pools, a tennis court, walking trails, a clubhouse,  basketball court and our very own gym.

We also asked her what she would like to share about herself with the community and she wasn’t lost for words, “I originally first visited Georgia in 1996 during the Olympics.  I just fell in love with the city, culture and the weather.  I accepted a teaching job with Dekalb Schools and purchased a home off Rockbridge Road.  I only worked for Dekalb County for one year, but I kept the house for another ten years going back and forth with family and friends during breaks and summer vacations.  I promised myself when I retired that I would come back here to live and on October 13, 2017 my address permanently changed from Mt. Vernon, NY to Stonecrest, GA.”

I retired from New York State Teachers’ Association after 36 years of teaching in Westchester County, June, 2017.  I found my dream home and community at the Parks of Stonecrest and have been elated ever since.  I have a nephew here along with a grand niece and a grand nephew.  I also have two longtime sister-girlfriends here.  I am passionate about exercise, and recently joined the Lou Walker Senior Center which I absolutely love.  I was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon for over 30 years.  While I was at Grace I was V.P. for the Health and Wholeness Ministry for over ten years.  I taught exercise and assisted with diet and nutrition for our members.  I currently attend Salem Bible Church and immediately became a Block Captain in our community.  I enjoy working closely with Mr. Eady and Edwina Clanton and look forward to becoming more involved.

My hobbies include exercise, dancing, reading, working with children, home decorating and decluttering.  I would really like our community, and especially the block I live on for everyone to get to know one another.  Being a “nosy neighbor” should be our number one priority.  Also I would love for everyone to join the Parks of Stonecrest Community Civic Association to help support the different activities and attend as many meetings as possible.  We can only be great if we work as a team.
